Social insurance mandate
CNS describes itself as having legal personality, its own assets and management autonomy. Its mission includes healthcare and short-term cash benefits. Occupational-risk protection sits alongside sickness and maternity coverage; it is not a separate commercial insurer and should not be understood as administering every pension benefit within Bolivia’s social protection system.
Worker registration
The official worker enrolment guidance refers to the AVC-04 form and documentation establishing identity, employment and remuneration. It also includes information from the entry medical examination. These records connect the employer and worker with the institution’s membership system. Family enrolment and continuing entitlement depend on the conditions applicable to the relevant beneficiary category.
Industrial hygiene and safety
A dedicated division carries out risk and job assessments in workplaces, accident investigations and biosafety activities. Its published responsibilities also cover hospital waste matters. The scope therefore includes workplace conditions in affiliated organisations and risks arising in healthcare settings, rather than treating prevention solely as an individual medical consultation.
Surveillance and occupational medicine
The Occupational Medicine division documents epidemiological surveillance, periodic assessments and job-related studies. Audiometry and occupational clinical assessment are among its activities. Their role is to connect health findings with specific exposures and support diagnosis, treatment, work adaptation and rehabilitation according to the situation being assessed and the applicable care arrangements.
Incapacity assessment
The Occupational Medicine structure includes an Incapacity Assessment division involved in occupational medical records and documentation of ordinary and occupational risks. Medical assessment provides evidence; an award of benefits depends on the relevant procedure and scheme. Temporary incapacity handled through short-term insurance should therefore be distinguished from disability benefits assigned to the long-term system.
Frequently asked questions
Does CNS deal only with workplace accidents?
No. Its scheme includes sickness, maternity and occupational risks. Occupational medicine is a specialised area within a broader healthcare institution.
How do industrial hygiene and occupational medicine differ?
Industrial hygiene examines workplace conditions and hazards. Occupational medicine studies their potential effects on people’s health. CNS documents both functions through dedicated divisions.
